So I’m not a firm believer in New Year’s Resolutions, mainly because I believe that if you want something at any given point in time – just go for it. Seriously, why do humans think they need to wait until its a brand new year to start fresh? Tomorrow is a brand new day. I’m all about self empowerment so if ya want something girl, get off ya butt and go get it.

With that being said, I have come up with some ways to slowly help myself (and you guys) gradually become a healthier version of yourself in the upcoming year. Not only through fitness, but wellness and health which helps your overall success in becoming the ultimate #girlboss. Now I do realize I’m writing this on February 1st, but hey, tomorrow is February 2nd, so why not start then? Here I will be showing you some healthy habits I want to start and continue that I hope to benefit my life (and yours).

Wake up early bird: Okay, so as a college student, I can defiantly say that we all have our days where we want to sleep in, which I get. Life’s hard man, but something I want to aim for this new year is waking up at a specific time every. single. day. Not only does waking up early give you more opportunity to get more things done throughout the day, but it is scientifically proven to help your sleep patterns regulate, increase your mood, and reduce caffeine dependence.

NO SNOOZE: Going along with waking up early, do not touch your snooze button. This has been something I’ve been doing for awhile now and there are so many benefits its unreal. I’m the type of person that when I’m up – I’m up. Once your alarm goes off, give yourself two minutes to stretch, rub your eyes, etc. Then get ya booty out of bed. Laying in bed or hitting the snooze button only makes you more tired. By waking up right when your alarm goes off stimulates your body into recognizing its time to get up, and eventually the habit will stick.

Learn to save: This is something I really want to work on this year. I am a sporadic spender aka I have zero self control. However, I have learned to limit my spending on luxury items that I don’t necessarily need at the moment. I’ll either write it down in my notes and set aside money to spend on those things to treat myself once every month or two. 

AM Workouts: Going along with waking up early, I’ve tried to get myself to get in the habit of getting my workouts done in the morning. I’m a night owl when it comes to school work, so once my classes are done for the day, the last thing I want to do is go to the gym at 5pm when its rush hour. By getting workouts done before you start your day, not only is it one less thing to worry about, but it makes you feel accomplished early, which will set the tone for the rest of your day.

Take personal time: Life is stressful, and I think its SO important to set time aside everyday for yourself because everyone needs it, but were so caught up in our schedules that we forget to pamper ourselves once in awhile. It can be 5 or 10 minutes a day where you eliminate all technology and just relax. Read a book, do some yoga or meditate. My favorite way to reconnect with myself is morning meditation or yoga. I’ve found that it really helps my overall health and mindset to just reconnect with my intentions once a day.

Get a planner: This is something that I actually started this year and I’m not sure how I survived without this. Getting a planner was the BEST decisions I’ve made. Not only does it help organize literally everything in my life, but it keeps me accountable for things as well. My planner has everything from schoolwork due dates, reading assignments, important events, and meetings. I love the feeling of constantly checking things off my list, it makes me feel so accomplished and like I actually know what I’m doing in life.

Set #GOALS: Now we all have things we want to do in life, so what’s holding you back? Setting realistic goals will motivate you into being the better person you want to be. It doesn’t always have to be something drastic because habits don’t stick in one day, it takes time. So be patient and good things will come. One thing I really want to aim to do this upcoming year is to start saying yes to almost everything. I feel like it will give me so much more opportunity in life and will allow me to be more optimistic about things.

These are just some minor habits that can improve your overall success in life. By doing one small thing everyday can help eventually form a habit into becoming natural in your daily routine. So write down your goals and keep yourself accountable for things you want to do!! Small things lead to big changes, so lets make 2019 our year.

The BEST Matcha Latte

So for those of you who may or may not know me, I am #matchaobsessed. Matcha has become the craze of 2018 and is not going away in 2019. Nothing says trendy like an Instagram post of a 7$ latte, but why spend the money when you can make one that tastes the exact same at home?

So here’s what you’ll need:

So I use the Sunfood Superfoods Matcha. I got mine from Whole Foods but they sell it on Amazon, Vitamin Shoppe, etc.

You can use any type of milk that you’d prefer, but I don’t drink any dairy milk so I use any type of almond milk I can find. My preferable choice is Wegman’s brand. I usually get the unsweetened version because I like to sweeten it on my own.

Then this is totally optional, but I like to sweeten mine because regular matcha can be suuuper bitter. I like agave because it blends better than honey and it has lower calories than honey.

Last, this is optional as well but it is super helpful to have a milk frother. Not only does it blend everything super well, it also literally froths your milk.. who would’ve thought. I got mine off Amazon for a low price and it is totally worth it.

Now to make the latte, its super simple, just get about a tablespoon of HOT water and a teaspoon of matcha. Blend those together with your milk frother until they’re nicely combined. Then, add your almond milk and sweetener to taste and blend again until your latte is frothy. Add ice to make it an iced version or keep it warm. So so easy and so delicious!
